Talk about late to the party, just like late to grid at Sears back in the 80's. Ran against Joe and Wayne in Formula 2 on my single four stroke. The racing was fun bit the Doritos and smoked tiny oysters with the ever present Tabasco was the best way to finish the day. Godspeed to my old friend.

Just left a mini-reunion with many of our fellow '74 classmates at Skyline. Did not know Joe had passed away. So sorry. Remember him from Skyline as a warm, friendly and compassionate guy. He was such a part of what made Skyline's Class of '74 a great class. Tragic loss for all of us. - Kit Hill, Ed.D. LMFT

I am so saddened to learn (albeit late) about the tragic accident that took the life of Joe Montoya. I raced AFM from 1980 to 1984 and got to know both Joe and Wayne, Team Bozo. Joe was a real inspiration and had a personality that I only wish I had. Recently, I attended the West Coast Moto Jam and found myself looking around the pit area for Joe and Wayne. I had not been to an AFM race in a few years but will ALWAYS remember AFM # 13....Mr Joe Montoya. RIP Joe. Condolences to Joe's Family.
Wayne, if you read this post or anyone has contact with Wayne then please give me a call at (415) 806-1800. Roger Hall

I had the pleasure of meeting Joe while working at Zeitgeist in San Francisco. Although, it wasn't until I moved to Oakland and started frequenting my neighborhood bar, The Heart and Dagger Saloon, that I really got the opportunity to know him. I knew he was a kind man, but after spending a few afternoons sharing stories over libations, I realized that he was just truly an incredibly gentle spirit...such a rarity to come across these days. It saddens me greatly to hear of his passing. Here's to that eternal ride home, Joe. You will be missed.

Joe, I hope you are having a good ride through that clear blue. You were so tall and quiet. Peace be with your loved ones.

Damn, what a loss! I loved his Team Bozo and his quiet reserved attitude as our long time AFM president in dealing with a bunch of hyper, panicky racers on race days! At one time the AFM had around 700 entrants on a single weekend and between Joe and Barbara Smith, things ran like clockwork! Long live the Bozos of the world....

I first met Joe in October 1978 when I first started with East Bay Mud. I will always remember what a good person he was, he never had a bad thing to say about anybody. We were good friends and I will miss him.

I first met Joe at Taft School in Redwood City back in 1967. He was one of the nicest guys way back then, so I'm not surprised so many people have nice things to say about him today. Although its been many years since we saw each other, my heart goes out to all who knew and worked with Joe. Rest in Peace, Joe.

It was my privilege to work with Joe for many years at East bay MUD. Joe was a unique individual and always a source of amazing knowledge for me. A world without Joe is a little dimmer and a lot sadder place.

I met Joe this last summer riding redwood. To say he stood out, is an understatement. Wether it was him and his enjoyment of that old bike, or a conversation with him, he made an impression on all of us. ill always cherish the time I had with him. An incredible person I feel honored to have even known.

I first met Joe when I started working at EBMUD in 1997. I was assigned to work on his crew and we became friends. As we got to know each other at work, we also found out that we shared a passion outside of work. We both loved to race, Joe was into motorcycle roadracing and I was into roadracing cars. We raced at some of the same tracks and knew some of the same people that ran the tracks. Joe went above and beyond at not only helping me advance my career at EBMUD, he has helped so many others as well. He was such a kind and generous person that was loved and respected by many. I will miss Joe and will always remember the times we shared at work. I know that Joe is looking down at us wearing those black converse and is designing a race track that will be like no other and the standard specs and drawings will be far beyond the best! I am very grateful for knowing such a good person as you. My condolences to your family.

Thanks Joe for all of the excursions and lunches you and Holly took Phyllis and I on the times I was able to come down from Oregon to visit. I will miss those times and you and Holly always coming up with something special to make the day fun. I will especially miss seeing Holly's face light up everytime she was around you, and how happy you made Phyllis knowing how much you loved Holly. And how much she loved you. Thank you for sharing some of your time with me, and I will miss seeing you when I visit down here. My condolences to your family and Holly , Phyllis, and Toby .
