Leland Cyril Spiegelman

passed away peacefully at his home in San Francisco, on December 22, 2015 at age 89.

Beloved husband of the late Joy Sugarman Spiegelman for 56 years; loving father of Marc (Jayne) Spiegelman, Roxanne (Stan) Cohn, and Heidi (Robert) Feldman; adoring grandfather of Erica H. Spiegelman, Max David Spiegelman, Joe Hess, Peter Harrison Cohn, Gabrielle Elisabeth Cohn, Matthew Alexander Cohn and Daniel Jerome Feldman; dear brother of the late David Spiegelman, Herbert Spiegelman, Mildred Golson and Estelle Wineroth; brother-in-law of Gay (Bernard) Young; and uncle to many beloved nieces and nephews.

A native of San Francisco, Lee grew up in the Marina where he attended Galileo High School and later graduated from San Francisco Law School. Lee practiced law in the Bay Area for over 40 years. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of Lake Merced Golf Club and the Concordia - Argonaut Club.

Lee loved languages and was conversant in French, Spanish, and Yiddish. He practiced his skills on the many travels he and Joy took, in particular to Paris where they spent much time later in their lives.

Lee was an avid sports fan and tennis player, with a regular game every week at Lake Merced Golf Club and taught his children and grandchildren to play on summer vacations at Lake Tahoe, where they spent wonderful summers boating. All his life, he enjoyed following the Giants and 49er teams. As an avid history buff, Lee was always eager to share his expansive knowledge.

The family would especially like to thank his devoted nephews Joel Wineroth and Bruce Spiegelman whom shared many lunches together. Lee will be greatly missed.
