Marcel Thomas, age 77, of San Francisco, California passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022, in San Francisco. He was born November 10, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Ernest Martin of Maryland and Ruth Tolliver of Virginia preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Dolores, Ernestine, Ernest "Reggie", Vincent, Ron, and Tony. Marcel was also known as Teddy or Big Mix.
Marcel accepted Christ before his passing. At an early age he wished to become a priest in the Catholic church. Marcel was a boxer and he worked for the former San Francisco District Attorney Terrance Hallinan's family. He was responsible for maintaining their apartment buildings on Sutter Street. He then went into business for himself, the scrap metal business, where he did very well. Marcel loved to draw, he loved kids and he was a dreamer. He always had an idea, an invention. He had a great sense of humor. He would always take first place at Silk's Halloween contests. If Marcel made a Halloween costume for you, you would take second place. He also was a house painter and a jack of all trades. He was a history buff and could never turn away from CNN. As he got older, he became more creative with his drawings and writing. He authored two books Cool Shoes, the Jack Russell Terrier and Imaginationland. Marcel could not spell worth a darn, so he and Alexa became good friends. I would remind him to ask Alexa, how to spell. Marcel loved his family and always desired to be closer with his adult children and grandchildren.
Marcel was a true believer in justice for all. He participated in many demonstrations in the 60s. He was for peace and equality and against injustice.
Marcel leaves to cherish his memories: his sister Deborah Martin of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, former wife of 11 years and partner /friend of 40 years Telicia Lewis, his childhood friends Sam Black and Donald Hood of Atlantic City, New Jersey and his grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
Marcel will be cremated.
Do not wait until the person is ill to show them love. Do not wait until the person is on his deathbed to show love, you should have showed love while he was alive.
