I am oh, so sad to hear that Mr. Maldonado has passed. But thinking of him mostly makes me smile. The world could use many more Robert Maldonados. He was endlessly kind, always lighthearted and very funny. I am very grateful that he took a group of us to Spain during the summer of 1973. I always think of him when I hear anything from 'Man of La Mancha'. Mr. Maldonado was a good man.

Mr. Maldonado,
What a wonderful testimony you are to the teaching profession. You touched many students lives in very positive way. What more do we want to do as educators?
Thank you,

Besides being a Spanish teacher, Bob was also very involved in the 'school spirit' of El Camino. He was an excellent advisor to the cheerleaders, pom pon girls and mascots.
When El Camino switched from boy cheerleaders to girl cheerleaders in the '69-'70 schoolyear, Bob personally drove new cheerleaders Sue, Shelley, Eileen, Kathy & Karin to Colby-Rall, a clothing manufacturing company in San Francisco, to assist them in designing their new cheerleading sweaters. He was so kind to each of them and his input was desperately needed as they were new and did not have former cheerleaders to give them advice.
It was also very helpful that he spoke Spanish as he was able to perfectly convey to the Spanish-speaking seamstresses exactly what he & the cheerleaders had in mind.
I was one of those cheerleaders.I will never forget you, Bob. You always had a smile on your face and were so dedicated to your beloved students. May you rest in peace, dear man. I know there is a special place in heaven just for you.

Mr. Maldonado was one of the nicest and most dedicated teachers at El Camino. I had him for Spanish in my sophomore year, well over thirty years ago. He was also the announcer at our basketball games, his big booming "radio" voice brought a touch of class to the Home of the Colts.

Mr. Maldonado, I will miss you! I thought you were crazy the first day I walked into your Spanish class in 10th grade. "Only Spanish will be spoken in this classroom", I remember you saying. I panicked! But by the end of my third year with you, I was able to carry on a somewhat decent conversation in Spanish. As I have traveled throughout the years and needed to speak Spanish, I have always thought of you! May your family find peace at this sad time knowing that you were an inhancement to so many lives. I, for one, am eternally grateful!

To the Maldonado family:
My husband and I were so sad to hear of Maldo's passing - what wonderful times we had in Student Leadership, helping make El Camino a truly fun place to attend high school in the '80s. Although we haven't seen him in years, we had nothing but fond memories of him and know that we are better, more confident adults because of him.

I never had the pleasure of having Bob as a teacher because I went to So. City. I had always heard about him and what a wonderful man he was through his student government officers. When I had the pleasure of meeting the "legend" in person, it was through USA spirit camps. His wonderful smile, easy-going manner, zest for life, and penchant for story telling made me look forward to seeing him every year. I will remember his voice as one of the best announcers at football games! Bob was not only a teacher, but also a friend. He will be missed by many.

Dear Maldonado family,
I was saddened to hear of Mr. Maldonado's death. When I think of my years at ELC I can't help but remember how much I looked forward to going to Mr. Maldonado's Spanish classes. Watering the plants, raking the orange shag carpet, making coffee, collecting money and then driving his car to go get donuts...and learning Spanish along the way. I loved all of it. And who could forget our trip to Spain! Not only was Mr. Maldonado a great teacher, but he was a brave one as well! I pray that your memories will bring smiles to your faces and help to lighten you grief.

Aw, Mr. Maldonado. He was one of the best teachers I ever had. His class was fun. Very few "mini vacations" in his class. Never got a "one-legged A" either.

I am at a loss for words, but Bob was more than a teacher. He was my mentor and friend. His zest for life was unequalled. The twinkle in his eye and his charming smile will not be forgotten. Bob never hesitated lending out a helping hand and did it graciously. Buenos noches, Senor Maldonado

My sincere condolences to Mr. Maldonado's family and loved ones. As a forner student, I have so many wonderful memories of Maldo - I was in Student Goverment during all my years at ELCH. The class conflicted with Calculus or something, so I got a "free" period with Maldo during one of his Spanish classes. He was so kind and generous with time, his amazing spirit, even his donuts - he will be truly missed.

Mr. Maldonado (Senor Maldonado?) taught Cianciolos to conjugate verbs (correctly) for almost 20 years. He's one of the very few people or things I can remember from high school and he will be continue to be remember (and missed greatly) by every one of us.
