Thomas Stillman Obituary
He is survived by his son, Thomas J. (T.J.) Stillman; his brother, Stanley Stillman III; seven nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
Tom, a fourth generation San Franciscan, was born on October 1, 1931, to Stanley Stillman, Jr. and Lucy (Anderson) Stillman. The family lived briefly in Portland, OR. When Tom was only eight, his father passed away and the family moved in with Tom's grandparents in Pacific Heights. Tom went to St. Ignatius High School and, after graduating, opened a camera store on Fillmore with his brother. Tom served in Korea near the end of the war, and after he left the military, he returned to San Francisco where he attended the University of San Francisco, graduating in 1958.Tom enjoyed traveling and finding great deals for his trips. His favorite places to visit were Thailand and Spain. Tom was also a huge sports fan and followed all the Bay Area teams. He instilled that love of sports into his son. Until 2011, Tom lived in the Golden Gateway, which was the center of his professional and social life. He had many good friends and acquaintances at the various taverns in the Financial District. After some medical issues, Tom spent the last four years in the superb care of the staff at Vintage Golden Gate.
