Victoria Koval Obituary

Victoria Sorokko Koval Passed away peacefully in San Francisco on November 29, 2007 surrounded by her loving family. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, she moved to Riga, Latvia after graduating magna cum laude from the Leningrad State University Law School in 1946. She practiced law in Riga first as a criminal defense attorney, and later as a civil litigator, until her retirement in 1979. Victoria moved to San Francisco in 1980 to reunite with her children, and made the Bay Area her home, which she loved and where she remained until her death. She is survived and will be forever missed by her daughter, Auriela McCarthy and her husband Mykaell, of Mill Valley; her son, Serge Sorokko and his wife Tatiana, also of Mill Valley; a grandson, Arthur Meyerovich of New York; and a granddaughter, Katya Sorokko, of SF. Private services were held. Donations in Victoria's memory can be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org.

The arc of VSK's life was grand -- Russia, Latvia, America; law school, criminal defense, civil litigation; wife, mother, grandmother. We did not know her, but surely she filled a room, and will be missed every bit as much as that.
