Aspen Geurts Obituary

Our beautiful and perfect Aspen left us on November 4, 2015. Aspen Victoria Geurts is at peace, but continues to shine bright to her family and friends as a symbol of love, innocence, and grace. She always saw the best in others and also found humor in the unpredictability of life. She is beloved by her father, mother, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbors, teachers, and classmates. She will be deeply missed for her warmth, love, and sass.

Aspen was born in Arcadia and lived in Claremont where she participated in ballet, tap, gymnastics, and swimming until she was old enough for Kindergarten. Aspen attended Chaparral Elementary and did well in all subjects though her favorite was writing. She also played the violin in the school orchestra. She loved school and all of her teachers.

Aspen attended El Roble Intermediate and continued to participate in orchestra. She was also a fan of Pokemon and anime and took Japanese language classes through BYU for fun. She and her sister attended a few anime expos as well.

She elected to go to high school in Glendora where she was an honors student, member of the orchestra, key club, and German club. In her spare time, she played her violin and wrote stories, her sharp wit and flair for the dramatic spilling across the pages. She had her first trip abroad this past summer when she spent about a month in Germany with GHS German Club and planned to go to France her junior year with her AP European History class. In the past year, she was able to do volunteer work with Key Club and passed food to the homeless, decorated floats for the Rose Parade, and participated in other volunteer work.

Aspen had a future with multiple possibilities and considered colleges on the east coast and California such as Scripps or UC Berkeley. Her favorite subjects were English and History and she was contemplating a future as a writer or lawyer.

Aspen was born on December 30, 1999 and her spirit will continue in the hearts of all who love her. She is survived by her twin sister, Alexandra, her parents, Norman and Kristine, and dozens of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Aspen's services will be held at Claremont United Church of Christ on November 19, 2015 at 4:00 pm. The church is located at 233 West Harrison Avenue, Claremont, California.

I feel compelled to let Aspen know she's never forgotten. I only knew her and her sister for a short time from when they'd visit me at the salon. But both girls made a huge impression and I still think of them and how they loved writing fan fiction about warrior cats. I always hoped I would have a child as creative and bright. I'm still shocked that she was taken far too soon but what a remarkable life she had in such a short time.

Dear Geurts Family
I am captivated by Aspen's beautiful smile in her picture and am truly sorry for your loss. She achieved so much in her short little life and she had such promise. You must be so proud. My heart is broken for you. Although I don't know you and your family I pray for God to heal your hearts and help you through this tremendous pain. I too lost a child, a son who was close in age, born Dec. 31 1999. So, I felt compelled to reach out and give you my deepest condolences for the loss of your precious daughter. God bless you,

I am heartbroken and send my deepest condolences to the Geurts family. While I do not know you, I pray daily for comfort, peace and hope for your entire family. My daughter went to El Roble with Aspen and she always spoke so highly of her, calling her a beautiful and funny person. She will forever be missed. In our thoughts and prayers, the Andruska family.
