Dorene Smith Obituary
Loving daughter, sister and aunt lost her battle to cancer. Grew up in El Monte, CA. A graduate of Mountain View HS. Received Bachelor's Degree in Political Science at Cal State Fullerton. Worked as a Librarian at Industry Hills Golf Course, until moving to Portland, where she became a Legal Research and Marketing Manager at Ater Wynne. Dorene's father, Carl passed away 4 days after Dorene. She is survived by mother Linda; and two siblings, Ed (Cindy) and Kathy. Survived also by her nephew, Brian and Nieces, Amanda (Scott) and Katelin. Services will be Wednesday, February 20th, 2019 at 1:00pm. Rose Hills in Whittier, at the Memorial Chapel. Reception to follow.

I first met Dorene when I joined a bowling league in Portland, Oregon. I didn't know anyone, but Dorene warmly welcomed me to the group and offered me a spot on her team. I found that was typical for Dorene. She was very friendly and brought people together. She was also very funny and witty, and she was a great writer. She sent out a pre-bowl letter every week for years during league that not only served as an invitation to meet up for dinner but included her ironic and sometimes hilarious views of current news events. Everyone in the league looked forward to it each week. I enjoyed many talks with Dorene and I found her to be a caring person. When she heard that my daughter was interested in becoming a librarian she offered to meet with us and discuss her background and professional life. That was important to my daughter and we both appreciated Dorene's advice and spirit of helpfulness. Dorene brightened my day every time that I saw her, and I will miss her.
