Nancy Truby Obituary

Nancy L. Truby

Oostburg - Nancy Lee Truby, 83, of Oostburg died at Pine Haven Christian Residential Home in Oostburg on Friday morning, August 24, 2018.

Nancy was born on September 13, 1934, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Robert R. and Dorothy (Thompson) Calpass. Nancy graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh in 1951 and then continued her schooling to become a registered nurse. On July 8, 1955, she married William Truby in Pittsburgh. Nancy briefly worked as a registered nurse, although she considered her primary occupation to be a devoted wife and mother to her family. Nancy and her husband raised their family in Wauwatosa up until the time of Bill's retirement in 1992, followed by their move to their retirement home on Lake Michigan in Oostburg.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Rev. William Truby of Oostburg; three daughters, Dorothy (Glenn) Huth of Appleton, Amy (Bernie) Lange of Madison, Polly (Adam) Heavenrich of Glencoe, IL one son, Michael (Amy) Truby of Appleton; 13 grandchildren, William, Vince, Kerry Huth, Nicole Powers, Kaitlin (fiancé Joe) Powers, Bernie (fiancé Alessandra) and Stephen Lange, Samuel, Becca, and Lilly Heavenrich, Peter, Jacob, and Olivia Truby; one sister-in-law, Florence Truby of Oakmont, PA and one brother-in-law George Truby of Leechburg, PA.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Kitty (Lou) Pastorius and one brother, Glenn (Julia) Calpass.

Nancy was a member of the First United Lutheran Church in Sheboygan where she served as an usher and with the Altar Guild. She was a dedicated and long-serving volunteer for Luther Manor and Lutheran World Relief. Nancy enjoyed gardening, knitting, birdwatching and reading. Most of all, she cherished the time she could spend with her loving family.

A memorial service to celebrate Nancy's life will be held at the First United Lutheran Church in Sheboygan on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 2 pm with the Rev. Todd Smith officiating. Family and friends will gather at the church from Noon until the time of service at 2 pm.

Memorial donations may be made to First United Lutheran Church, Pine Haven Christian Communities or the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

The Truby family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staffs of Pine Haven Christian Communities and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the dedicated and loving care given to Nancy and their family.

On behalf of the entire Luther Manor family, we send our most sincere condolences to Pastor Truby and his entire family. In addition to serving in the import role as his right hand gal during his tenure as an instrumental CEO at Luther Manor, Nancy left her own mark as a dedicated volunteer touching hundreds of residents and staff by bringing joy and abundance into their lives.

Nancy began her volunteer service at Luther Manor in October, 1972. She enjoyed partnering with the Health Care Center activity department on Wednesday mornings volunteering with baking activities and the monthly birthday party that honored residents who celebrated a birthday during the month. The birthday party volunteer crew, Nancy included, was honored as recipients of Luther Manor's Good Samaritan Award on February 7, 2001 for their work bringing happiness and fun times through the celebrations they lead. Nancy was also very involved in the Health Care Center holiday decorating projects for many years.

She retired from her volunteer service in December, 2016 after having blessed the Luther Manor community with 4,471 hours of service. Nancy was presented with a Luther Manor Volunteer Emeritus Certificate for her dedicated service in March, 2017. We are blessed and grateful for her commitment and dedication to Luther Manor's mission and our ministry of care.

May your memories of her remain with you always and may the thoughts and prayers of those who surround you be a comfort at this time of loss.

My sincerest condolences to your family. While I only met Nancy once, I talked with Amy, Amy and Mike on several occasions when Wm. was at PH Giddings. My heart and prayers go out to you.
