Bob was born on Dec. 30, 1925, in Sheboygan, the son of George and Edna Schuette Fuerst. He attended Holy Name Catholic Grade School, North High School, and Sheboygan Business College.

On April 11, 1953, Bob married Jean J. Zohlen at Holy Name Catholic Church. They were married 58 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carlos.

Survivors are his wife, Jean; his children, Diane (Hartmut) Gerlach, Appleton, Wis.; John (Cristina Valdes) Fuerst, Austin, Texas; and Mary (Michael) Ernst, Berkeley, Calif. He is further survived by eight grandchildren, Bettina (Michael) Lenzen, Appleton, Wis.; Peter (Cady) Gerlach, Syracuse, N.Y.; and Kenneth, Joseph, Daisy, Luke, Rose and John Ernst, all of Berkeley, Calif. Also, he is survived by one great-granddaughter, Katelyn Lenzen, and one great-grandson on the way.

Bob was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy for approximately three years during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Denver in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, and was among the first wave of naval forces to occupy Japan. Bob spent 39 years working at Kohler Company and retired as a Supervisor in the Corporate Purchasing Division.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing tennis, golf and Sheepshead, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers (he was a proud shareholder) and the Milwaukee Brewers. Bob was also an usher at St. Dominic church for many years.

A private service will be held for the immediate family and close friends. The burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hancock, Dr. Gould and the nurses of the Wound Center at St. Nicholas Hospital.

A donation in Bob's name may be made to St. Dominic Church or any charity of your choice.

To the family of Robert Fuerst, I had the pleasure of dealing with Robert and his wife Jean about 25 years ago helping them with the purchase of their Mazda 626. Robert was an absolute gentleman, kind and thoughtful. I still have the thank you card Robert sent me after they took delivery of their car. My sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Robert Fuerst. Please accept my condolences.
