Betty Thomas Obituary
Betty Loftin Thomas of Shreveport died a month shy of her 83rd birthday at home surrounded by loved ones after a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer's disease. She passed away in her sleep on April 29, 2017. Services will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 1 p.m., followed by burial at Forest Park Cemetery. Pastor Trey Lewis will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday, May 1, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Osborn.
Born and raised in Coushatta, she was the daughter of the late Orie and Minnie Loftin. She was a member of Kingston Road Baptist Church in Shreveport. Mrs. Thomas retired from the Caddo Parish School Board after 28 years of service as cafeteria manager at various schools.
Her husband, Due Wayne Thomas, pre-deceased her after 58 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were brothers, Joseph, Henry, Shedrick and Bobby Loftin and sisters, Elsie Scoggins and Helen Woodard.
She is survived by son, David Thomas and his wife, Mary Ann Van Osdell of Shreveport and daughter, Marianne Thomas Gunn and her husband, Michael Gunn, who moved from Alexandria, Va., for Marianne to serve as mother's caregiver a year ago. She is also survived by a sister, Edwina Bolding of Oak Grove and a host of nieces and nephews.
