The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to William Baxter (Willie) Peters our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Willie. And to Willie it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country while serving in the U.S. Navy. Willie, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Willie's family and loved ones.

Where do I begin ... I retired from Tango Transport in 2008 but never forgot Willie Peters. Willie had this special way of making it seem like you mattered, like you were of value. Anytime I wanted to talk, whether it be business or personal, he was interested and gave of his time so freely. Of course he will be missed tremendously; words cannot heal the pain of losing him but cherish the fact that he was loved by many! Count me as one of his greatest 'cheerleaders' and know I will continue to keep his family in my prayers. Ms. El

It hurts so bad, to say goodbyes.....Pain is felt, with tear filled eyes.......The news we dread, want not and fear.......Suddenly reality, becomes cystal clear............Knowing the risk, and chances we take.....We start up our motors, the trip we do take.....With freedom, and passion, the wind in your hair.............
You may not have made it, but I'll meet you there...........
