Frances E. "Betty" Martin 1944 - 2021
Springfield, IL—Frances E. "Betty" Martin, 76, of Springfield, died Friday, February 5, at Memorial Medical in Springfield. She was born, August 2, 1944, the only child of Floyd W. and Helen (Cooley) Wilton. She married Gerald T Martin in 1965, and they were later divorced.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Martin and Heather Dorsey, of Springfield, her companion, James McKlane, and several cousins.
Ms. Martin graduated from Greenfield High School and attended Southern Illinois University, Alton, Illinois. She was employed by the Illinois Department of Public Health for 10 years, and retired in 2004 from the Illinois State Police after 30 years of service. She was a member of The Humane Society of the United States, the AARP, and the Animal Protective League, acting as a volunteer there since her retirement.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a private family service will be held at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield with inurnment at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield. Memorials are suggested to the Rockbridge United Methodist Church or the Animal Protective League of Springfield. Please leave an online memory or condolence at the shields-bishopfh.com
