SPRINGFIELD - James W. Medlock, 73, of Springfield died after a long illness on Friday, May 30, 2008, in his home that he built. He was born July 14, 1934, in Chapin, the son of Clyde and Erma Briggs Medlock. He married Rose Anne Tomasek on Oct. 6, 1962, in Cicero. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Walter James Medlock; a brother, Tom Medlock; and a sister, Kay Sanders.
James worked in construction all of his life as a member of Clyde Medlock and Sons before venturing out on his own. He enjoyed his trade of building and remodeling homes and was an avid Cardinals fan.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Anne; two daughters, Linda Medlock of Springfield and Julie (husband, David) Gebhardt of Rochester; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Nichole Gebhardt and Christopher Alan Gebhardt; a brother, Clyde (wife, Aileen) Medlock, Jr. of Manchaca, Texas; two sisters, Laura Wall of Springfield and Louise (husband, George) Estabrook of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 until the time of funeral mass at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Monsignor Thomas P. Holinga officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2008, at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WSEC, P.O. Box 6248, Springfield, IL 62708, Seven County Kidney Fund, Attn: Charlene Vollmer 701 N. First St., Springfield, IL. 62702 or St. Joseph's Church Building Fund, 1345 N. Sixth St., Springfield, IL 62702.
