Robert Wayne Sturm
NEW BERLIN- Robert Wayne Sturm, age 73, of rural New Berlin, Il. died early Tuesday (February 19, 2013) at Heritage Health in Springfield, Il.
He was born February 21, 1939 in Springfield, Il. son of the late John F. and Dorothy Montgomery Sturm.
He married Carol Maginn on May 7, 1961 in Waverly, Il. and she survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Tammy Compton and husband Scott of Chatham, Il.; one son, Timothy A. Sturm and wife T.J. of Richmond, Mo.; six grandchildren, Adrianna Sturm, James Sturm, Jordan Sturm, Joseph Sturm, Devin Compton and Lillian Compton; a sister Marilyn Tisdale of Pekin, Il.; one brother, Harry Sturm and wife Margaret of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Sandra Jean Sturm; and three brothers, John, Joseph, and William Sturm.
Mr. Sturm was a farmer farming in Sangamon and Morgan counties and was a member of Sangamon Co. Farm Bureau for 50 years. He was also member of the Waverly Masonic Lodge. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving until 1964. He was a past president and member of the Community Unit 16 School Board in New Berlin, Il. for 19 years as well as Capital Area Career Center Board in Springfield, Il. And he was a volunteer at the Sangamon County Fair for many years. He was an avid woodworker.
Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (February 25, 2013) at the Waverly United Methodist Church in Waverly, Il. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. Monday until the time of services at the Waverly United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to New Berlin/Island Grove EMS or to New Berlin Area Veteran's Memorial Association. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com. Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, Il. is in charge of arrangements.
