CAROL GILBERT Obituary

Carol D. Gilbert, 89 of Mount Vernon passed away Saturday, December 19, 2009.

She was born on December 25, 1919 in Mount Vernon, WA to Olga (Bergstrom) and Russell Davis and graduated from Union High School in 1937. Upon graduation she went to work for Pollack Theatre's at the Lincoln Theatre where she worked until 1960.

She married her loving husband Donald G. Gilbert in November of 1957. Their first son Jay was born in 1958 and their second son Dean was born in 1960.

She was also a member of the Hospital Guild, an active member of the Republican Women's Committee of Skagit Valley, and a proud member of the State Association of the Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington State and a Territorial Daughter.

Carol enjoyed the game of bridge and was associated with several bridge clubs throughout her life. The daily crossword puzzle was never left alone until completed. Bingo became her passion where she met many true and endearing friends.

Carol is survived by her husband, Donald; two sons, Jay (and wife, Jill) Gilbert, Dean Gilbert; three granddaughters, Justine Weber, Julianne Simpson and Jayne Gilbert; two great-grandchildren, Breiten and Harmony Weber; one sister, Lorraine Kossow; one brother, Dan Davis, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Olga and Russell Davis; sister, Charlotte Tjernagel; and brother, Russell Davis.

My sincere sympathy to my uncle Don and cousins Jay and Dean. I loved Carol so very much, she was so very generous to me. She used to let me pretend that I was a parade princess in her convertible!

Dear Don and Family,
Carol was a very special cousin. She gave me apicture of her taken at my parents' wedding in 1925. She was the flower girl and so pretty.
I used to have thirteen first cousins; now I have only five.
Lots of sympathy and love,
Margaret Jean

Don, Jay and Dean -
My heartfelt sympathies on the loss of your wife and mother. "Mrs. Gilbert" was always special to me, whether it was the special Halloween popcorn balls or putting up with us putting on plays in the basement. A very special lady.
Deepest sympathies,

Sorry to hear of your loss. I can remember my Dad telling of the jokes he and Carol played on each other when they worked together at The Theaters. She always gave as good as she got. Carol would threaten to with hold his paycheck.!! Remember the good times!
