DAVID HERRING Obituary

David Ray Herring passed away peacefully on May 23, 2013 at Modoc Medical Center in Alturas, CA. Called "Moonie" by his family and friends, the Canby resident had called Modoc home for the passed 12 years.

He was born December 16, 1942 in Richmond, CA and raised in the Bay Area.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a private in the Thailand Crisis. He was discharged in November 1963.

On May 9, 1963 he married his childhood sweetheart Anna Mae Oden "Gidget" and they were able to share 50 years of marriage and many adventures before he passed.

After his discharge from the Marine Corps, Moonie and Gidget followed the construction trade up and down the West Coast, then settled in Skagit Valley, WA for 30 years before moving to Canby, CA.

A carpenter, pipefitter and "Moon of all trades", he enjoyed Harley riding, cooking, fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends.

He served as Skagit Valley of Washington A.B.A.T.E. coordinator, (A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments), described as a "non-profit organization dedicated to the freedom of choice". He was also affiliated with the Skagit Valley Men's Pool League. He had many hobbies and had a huge extended family. He was looked up to by all who knew him as a "living legend". He will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife Anna Herring of Canby, CA; son David Jr. and wife Tia with their daughter Brittany and son Trevor and his girlfriend Hannah of Acme, WA; daughter Carol Ann with her daughter Crystal, her boyfriend Roger and their daughter Anna Mae Rose of Alturas, CA; daughter Tina and her husband, Steve their daughter Misty Rose and her boyfriend Thomas of Thompson Falls, MT; son James "Rabbit" and his son Holdan Burns (U.S.M.C) of Clearlake, WA; brother Jerry Herring and wife Joy and family of Florence, AL; brothers and sisters-in-law with many nieces and nephews that he adored.

A celebration of life will be held at Cindy Goodhew-McCutcheon's house at 18027 Cook Rd., Burlington on Saturday, July 6, 2013 from 1 p.m. till ? It will be a potluck! Bring a tent!

I'm so sorry, I just found out. I will miss him, I've thought about "Dad and Mom" often since moving away from NV back home to San Jose. They always made me feel like I was one of their own.
