VERA BULLO Obituary

Vera Mae Bullo. 92, a former resident of the Blanchard-Edison area, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.

She was born on July 18, 1917 in Edgerton, Alberta Canada to DW (Will) Alwood and Lerah (Hammock) Alwood. Vera moved to Washington at the age of seven. She graduated from high school in Aberdeen, and attended business school in Seattle.

On October 23, 1937 she was united in marriage to Walter Wayne Bullo in Mount Vernon, and made their home in the Blanchard and Edison area for over 50 years. They had three children, Judy, Larry and Randall.

Vera worked at Edison Elementary School as a secretary for over 20 years.

In 1989, Vera and Walter moved to Soap Lake, Washington, where they enjoyed their retirement in the warmer weather. In 2000 they moved to Marysville, then finally returning to the Skagit Valley in 2004 when Vera and Walter moved to Country Meadows Village in Sedro- Woolley. In 2007, they were blessed to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.

Vera enjoyed crafts, travel, and fishing, but she enjoyed her friends the most! It seems as if, everywhere she went, she knew someone, their spouse or children! Her cheerful personality, smile and sense of adventure will be missed by all.

Vera is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy & Earl Lindstrom of Bow, and son and daughter-in-law Larry & Elizabeth Bullo of Concrete. Four grandchildren and their spouses, Sandie & Bill King of Tacoma, Bill & Janet Lindstrom of Burlington, Laura & Jason Wheeler of Oak Harbor and Mike Smith of Arlington. Three great-grandchildren, Sarah and Casey King and Lacy Smith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings, Helen Turner of Aberdeen, De Omdal of La Conner and James and Eileen Alwood of Hoquiam.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter in 2008, her son Reverend Randall S. Bullo in 1995, and grandson Mark Smith in 2000.

The family suggest memorials to the Bailey Boushay House - 2720 E Madison, Seattle WA 98112, St. Jude's Children's Hospital - 9107 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90210, or World Vision - PO Box 9716, Federal Way, WA 98063.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 2:00pm at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Jim Cannon officiating. Visitation will be available on Thursday & Friday from 9am to 5pm and on Saturday from 9am to 1pm. Private interment will be at Bow Cemetery. Reception will follow. As I was growing up and attending Edison Elementary I remember her big smile behind that big desk she sat behind. I have my own children now and hope that when they walk into school they see a friendly face like I found in Vera. Rosalinda Candia Sanchez, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

I first met Vera as a child in the 50's when my parents brought me and my brother to Bow and Edison to see Vera and Wayne and Ben and Dee. We also went to Aberdeen to see Helen and Charlie. I think we returned a year later, and it was those early childhood visits that established for me a link with the Alwood family in Washington. After that Vera and Wayne came to Edmonton to visit my parents quite a number of times right up into the 1990's. I will always remember her warmth and humour and loving manner. What a wonderful woman she was and what a great family she has left behind. My most sincere condolences to Larry and family and Judy and family and to all others including grandchildren. She and her smiles and love will be missed by many.

Vera was such a happy person and so much fun to be with. I will miss her smile, great stories, and sincere concern for everyone she encountered. She was a loving mother and grandmother, so very proud of her family. My sympathy to all of us who share this loss.

Dearest Vera... I have such fond memories of having "coffee" with Vera and my Grandma Nina... running back and forth from Grandma's house to Vera's house with Randy and my sister, Julie, in tow! What a great childhood we had growing up in Edison and Vera was a big part of it. I send my love out to Judy, Larry, and all the family!
