Callie Mae McQueen Feb. 2, 1929 - June 24, 2015 ELKHART - Callie Mae McQueen, formerly of South Bend, went home to be with the Lord on June 24, 2015, at Kindred Valley View Nursing Home in Elkhart after a lengthy illness. Callie was born to Charlie McQueen and Liddie Coffey on February 2, 1929, in Hughes, Arkansas. Both parents preceded her in death along with a sister, Leanna Robe, and a brother, Les Tanner. Her mother passed when she was a child and she was raised by her Aunt Bessie. She relocated to South Bend in 1944, coming from Chicago. She was employed at AM General and retired September 1, 1989. Callie was the oldest member in age and membership of the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church where she served as president of the choir, president of the Pastor's Aid, Superintendent of the Sunday School and a member of the Missionary Society. Her favorite pastime was shopping, going to garage sales, and listening to Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC's. She was also an Eastern Star. Callie had an eye for fashion and always made sure that everything that she had on matched. Although she had no children of her own, she was known as "Aunt Callie" by most of the children in the church who she would call "Honey Punch." She never met a stranger and always made sure to say "I love you." She leaves behind two goddaughters, Stephanie (Gregory) Burroughs of Bowie, Maryland, and Loretta Bingham of Elkhart, Indiana; three god-grandchildren, Malea Burroughs of Bowie, Maryland, David (and his wife Erica) Gary and Alleea Johnson, both of Elkhart; six great-grand-godchild-ren; her best friend, Alice Benjamin; along with a host of cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Callie's name to the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church, 1502 West Washington Street, South Bend, Indiana. Funeral services for Callie Mae McQueen will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Alford's Mortuary. Viewing will taie place at Alford's Mortuary from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Alford's Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
