RIP Daniel - you had one of the most contagious smiles I have ever known. You made an imprint on many more folks than I suspect you ever knew. I will remember the "talks" we had as you were heading out on your last deployment. You loved your family and your country. You were very nobel young man. Our country is indebted to you.

We are going to miss you buddy. I still picture you walking around with a gallon jug of water everywhere you went. The world is definitely a darker place without you smiling in it. Rest in peace bro.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to SGT Daniel Jay Troxel our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Dan. And to Dan it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for his service in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and for the selfless sacrifices he made for his country while serving with the U.S. Army. No greater love and patriotism is shown than a man dedicate his life in service to his country. Dan, you are a brave Army Warrior and a true Patriot. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Dan's family and loved ones.

For the entire Troxel family, I did not have the honor of meeting David, but I had the honor of serving with C Med members in Afghanistan. His loss is something that cannot be understood now and maybe never, but his service to our nation will always be remembered by the people of a greatful nation.

Daniel,
A thousand times we needed you
A thousand times we cried
If love alone could have saved you
you never would have died
A heart of gold stopped beating
two twinkling eyes closed to rest
God broke our hearts to prove he only took the best

My deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the family of this fine young man. He gave me so much laughter and fun throughout his high school years spending Thursday night at our house for "boys night". We all had some crazy times and I loved him as my own. There is a very special place in heaven for him, I'm sure he will keep them in stitches as he did all of us.
Peace to you all......
