Gary Wayne McCartney Sr.

Dec. 25, 1951 - March 11, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Gary Wayne McCartney Sr., 62, of South Bend, passed away on March 11, 2014, in his residence. Gary was born in South Bend on Dec. 25, 1951, to the late Robert and Theresa (Tirotta) McCartney. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1977. Gary worked for many years as a machinist 'tool and die maker' for Federal Mogul in South Bend. On July 2, 1994, in South Bend, Gary married April Reid. He was a member of the American Legion Post #50 in South Bend, an avid golfer and fisherman, and loved Notre Dame football. Gary is survived by his wife, April, along with his sons, Gary W. McCartney Jr., and Cameron G. McCartney, both of South Bend. Gary was the grandfather of six: Kelsey, Kourtney, Gary W. McCartney III, Cameron McCartney Jr., Katilyn, and Alexus; and a great-grandfather of Andrew. Gary is also survived by his siblings: Mona Smith of Fishers, IN, Robin (Greg) O'Toole of Niles, MI, Cindy Maynard of Niles, Robert McCartney Jr. of Edwardsburg, MI, Denny and Tom McCartney, both of Michigan. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, March 13th, from 4 until 8:00 pm in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, and one hour prior to the service. A service celebrating Gary's life will be held on Friday, March 14th, at 1:00 pm in the funeral chapel, with Ed Wilsberg officiating. Burial is to follow at the Highland Cemetery in South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or the American Cancer Society, 130 Red Coach Dr., Mishawaka, IN 46545.
