Chester Baker Obituary

Hanover Chester Ernest Baker, January 22nd following a period of declining health, died peacefully in his home in the arms of his loving wife surrounded by his family. Chester was born in Weymouth MA, the only son of Chester E Baker Sr. and Phyllis Marie LeFavor of West Bridgewater MA. Upon the passing of his parents at a young age, he was raised by his beloved grandparents John and Jeannette LeFavor of Quincy MA. He served with the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in action in Holland on November 5, 1944. He earned degrees from Northeastern University, Suffolk Law School, and Bentley College and worked in the accounting and law fields for over 50 years, including the Estate and Gift Tax Division of Internal Revenue Service and his own tax practice in Hanover MA. It was while working at a downtown Boston accounting firm where he met his wife, Patricia A Beaver. They grew much closer through their days at the Brettl-Hupfers Ski Club in N Conway NH and would be married for 43 years, settle in Hanover MA, and have six children. Of his marriage to Patricia, he often said "It was the best decision I ever made!" Chester was a lover of outdoors and an enthusiastic golfer who was very generous with the sharing of found golf balls. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His poise and courage, compassion and kindness, patience, easy laughter, and his faith and love are the qualities of his life that touched those whom he encountered. He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia (Beaver) Baker and six children and three grandchildren. John F.X. Baker of Plymouth MA; Jody (Baker) Davis and son-in-law Brian of Ipswich MA; Kerry Baker-Holeschovsky and son-in-law Ulrich of Pittsburgh PA; Michael E. Mr. Baker,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army in Europe during WW II fighting the Germans with the "Screaming Eagles"-the 101st Airborne Division. The 101st fought over 60 days in combat in Holland from September 17, 1944 when the jumped into Holland to around the end of November in some of the worst conditions imaginable. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Dear Particia,
I was deeply saddened to hear that Chester had passed away.
I know this past year had been difficult for him.
I am so sorry for your loss. He was a good man and I appreciate all that he did for my uncle.
I felt badly that I missed the services.
May your sadness diminish with time and remember he will always be alive in your heart.

Sincerely,
Amanda Bruce

Uncle Chet, your easy smile and pipe tobacco kisses will be warmly remembered always. I'll remember swimming in the pool, exploring in the woods and splitting the last chicken wing at Christmas! I'll miss you.

Your loving nephew, Frank
