Edward Leonard Obituary

ABINGTON Edward F. Leonard of Abington and Nokomis FL, (formerly of Boston) died peacefully on March 20 surrounded by his loving family. Edward was born in Boston on July 18th 1925, attended Boston schools and graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in 1942. He worked in the Charlestown Navy Yard until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1943. He served aboard the USS Russell (DD414) in the South Pacific, including the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Ed was founder and president of Allied Communications Corp. in N. Quincy from 1958 through 1993. He was an active member of Saint Bridgets Parish, the Knights of Columbus, Quincy Rotary and the Abington VFW He was the beloved husband of Bernice Odenweler Leonard and devoted father of six: Edward F. Leonard, Jr. and wife Jane, Bernice Renninger and husband Joel, Robert Leonard and wife Catherine, Richard Leonard and wife Sheila, Kevin Leonard and wife Maureen, and Paul Leonard and wife Rachel and the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren: Daniel, David and Alissa Leonard; Christopher and Matthew Renninger; Laura and Jeffery Leonard; Michael, Mark and Michelle Leonard, Catlin and John Keough; Gregory, Thomas and Elizabeth Leonard; James, Kristin and Stephen Leonard. He is also survived by his loving sister Mary Strong of S. Weymouth, brother Jack Leonard and wife Sandy of Lago, FL, his sister in law Geraldine Leonard of Hingham and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held at the Quealy and Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington, Tuesday, March 24th from 4 to 8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bridget Church, Abington at 9:00 AM Wednesday, March 25. Interment will follow the Mass at New Calvary Cemetery, Roslindale. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Eds name to Saint Bridget School, 455 Plymouth Street, Abington, MA. 02351 or to Saint Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN. 38105-9959.

Mr. Leonard,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USN during WW II as a "Tin Can Sailor" aboard the destroyer USS Russell. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
