John W. McKinnon

John W. McKinnon, lifelong resident of Quincy, passed away after a brief illness, February 5, 2015, at the age of 87. He was the loving husband of 62 years to Marjorie E. (House) McKinnon. Loving father of James W. McKinnon and his wife Donna of Pembroke, Thomas J. McKinnon and his wife Frances of Milton and the late Richard A. McKinnon. Brother of Walter McKinnon of Weymouth, Dorothy House and her husband Robert of Stoneham, the late James and Robert McKinnon. Dear grandfather of Frank Susi and his wife Amanda , Brett McKinnon, Morgan Brand and her husband Samuel, Melissa and Mallory McKinnon and the late Marc A. Susi. Also survived by his great-granddaughter Sonya Susi and many nieces and nephews. John was born in Quincy, was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1945. John was a great all-around athlete and was inducted into the Quincy High School Basketball Hall of Fame. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a pipefitter by trade and member of the Pipefitters Union Local 537, Boston for over 40 years. He was an avid sports fan; a longtime member of the Adams Heights Mens Club, enjoyed doing cryptograms and playing cribbage. He and his wife enjoyed summers in N.H. and their various family vacations. His greatest joy however, came from spending time with family and watching his children and grandchildrens sporting events and activities. A funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place Monday in Milton Cemetery, Milton.
