David Blackwell Obituary

David 'Craig' Blackwell
SPARTANBURG, SC-- David 'Craig' Blackwell, 57, of Spartanburg, SC, entered the beautiful gates of heaven on Tuesday, December 29, 2015. For 25 years, he was the husband of Libby Fine Blackwell. He was born December 16, 1958, in Spartanburg, to Marie Hullett Blackwell and the late Raymond Lee Blackwell Sr. Also surviving are his brothers, Ray (Nancy) and Joey (Carolyn); his niece, Wendy Blackwell Schulties (Brian) stationed in Italy; nephew, Bryan Blackwell; great-nephew and niece, Hayden and Bailey Grace; and his caregiver, Teresa Hamrick Johnson who assisted with his care for the past 18 years.
A 1977 graduate of Spartanburg High School, Craig was an active member of Northbrook Baptist Church and played on their softball team until his illness. He was also an electrician for Atherton Electric until his illness.
Craig had a routine surgery, followed by a heart attack then cardiac arrest, and suffered anoxic brain damage. He was bedridden for nearly 25 years.
We take comfort that Craig's faith was in Jesus Christ and that he has no more sickness or brain damage. He's walking, talking, and smiling his beautiful smile again.
Visitation will be 10:00-11:30 AM Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Brown and Mr. Craig Seay. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Northbrook Baptist Church, 1881 Boiling Springs Hwy, Boiling Springs, SC 29316; or River Hills Baptist Church, 5762 Reidville Road, Moore, SC 29369.
