Fred PFEIFER Obituary

PFEIFER,
Fred "Bud"

Fred Pfeifer, a longtime resident of Liberty Lake, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2018 in Spokane Valley WA, he was 91. Fred was born in Minneapolis on May 27, 1926.

He attended Washburn high school in Minneapolis. Following graduation, Fred joined the Army Air Corps and served flying PBY Catalina submarine surveillance along the Gulf Coast. He then attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in architectural engineering. His passion for outdoor sports, especially competitive snow skiing, led him west with his young wife Toby. Settling at Liberty Lake in the house he designed and built, Fred started a business in the building materials field. He was the inventor of the door machine for making pre-hung doors. He flew his Cessna 175 making calls on lumber yards all around the west. When traveling by car, he always took his handball gear plus skis in the winter, and a fly rod in the summer. As a business owner and consultant in sales he logged over two million road miles and countless air miles. In retirement he continued to enjoy traveling, racquet sports, golf, boating and fishing with family and friends. Fred always had a dog at his side, kept boats at the lake and in Seattle, loved to drive sports cars and for years played competitive handball. He was a member of the Elks, Home Builders Association, Spokane Ski Club, and Central Park Racquet Club. Fred and Toby enjoyed the many close, lifelong friends locally and across the country.

Raising his family on Liberty Lake, Fred's college years' experience as a camp counselor was put to great use. He taught his four kids skiing, swimming, water skiing, sailing, kayaking, fishing, hunting, snorkeling, archery, badminton, tennis, ping pong, backgammon, skating, hockey, basketball and everything else he enjoyed.

Fred was preceded in death by: his son Mark; brother Dick of Newport News; sister Muriel; and, parents Fred and Marguerite. He is survived by: his wife of nearly 70 years, Toby Pfeifer; son Grant (Melody); daughter Stephanie Beaudry (Steve); son Jay (Joanie); daughter-in-law Maureen; brother-in-law, Don Moberg (Pat); four nieces; four nephews; 10 grandchildren and, four great-grandchildren.

In his last days, Fred was under the compassionate, loving care of Good Samaritan in Spokane Valley. A Celebration of Fred's Life is being planned for this spring at the Good Sam Community Center. The family may be reached at home or % Box 3149, Hayden ID 83835-3149.
