Ruth McDavis Obituary
McDAVIS, Ruth (Christianson) Our mom, Ruth McDavis passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on June 15, 2010. She was born in Superior, WI to Herman and Ella Christianson. She moved to Spokane, when she was eight years old. Mom grew up during the depression and was very proud of growing up in Hillyard and attending John Rogers High School, where she later helped with numerous reunions. She met her husband, Don McDavis when she was 14, they married six years later when he was home on leave during WWII and she was working at Spokane and Eastern Bank. After the war they moved to Palo Alto where Dad attended graduate school at Stanford. They moved back to Spokane when dad was offered a teaching job. They had a son, Bruce and a daughter, Susan and they built their family home on the South Hill. Mom returned to work when her children were older; she was an excellent secretary. She worked for a prominent attorney in Hillyard, George Elmer Brown. Mom belonged to Manito Garden Club and liked to spend her summers with family at Hayden Lake. She is survived by her children, Bruce McDavis, and Sue (Tom) Shipton; grandchildren, Gibran Sharpe (Brooke Simpson), Quinn (Emily) Sharpe, Skyler Sharpe, and Chelsea (Brad) Burger; her brother, Warren Christianson; four great-grandchildren, Lili, Coelho, Brody, and Kash; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Tad McNaught-Davis. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Don McDavis; her brother, Cy Christianson; and her sister, Louise Fairburn. Mom's greatest pleasure was being a wife and mother. She lived the last six years at Classy Retreat, Helena House. When anyone asked her age she would say, "It's unlisted, like my phone number." Special thanks to her friends Esther Anderson, Jean Ross, and Mary Roe. We love you mom, thanks for all your love. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. The family invites you to join in a celebration of Ruth's life on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 2:00pm at Fairmount Memorial Park, Sunset Chapel, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane, WA.
