Vernon Doyl Obituary

DOYL, Vernon Reed (Age 98) Born June 10, 1910, in Spokane to Joseph and Bessie Doyl, Vernon passed away May 26, 2009 (two weeks shy of 99 years). He is survived by daughter, Joanne Miller, Spokane; granddaughter, Lori Pettit; great-granddaughters, Summer Benson and Sable Pettit; and great-great-grandchildren, Emma and Caiden Benson and Kloe Pettit all of Seattle. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Doyl of Spokane, many nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Eva, and brothers, Stan, Wayne, Lawrence, and Lloyd. Vernon attended Jefferson Grade School and Lewis and Clark High School. He started working for the Spokesman Review-Chronicle in 1928, retiring as manager of the Purchasing Department in 1975 after 47 years. Vernon was baptized in 1912 at Liberty Park United Methodist Church and has remained a faithful member ever since. He has served on the board of Rockwood Retirement Community for 25 years, and has lived at Rockwood for the last 20 years. Vernon and Eva enjoyed many wonderful years at their place on Priest Lake. Vernon and daughter Joanne have spent good times fishing at Badger Lake. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2009, at 11 AM at Liberty Park United Methodist Church, 1526 East 11th Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Park United Methodist Church, Priest Lake Community Church, or Rockwood Foundation. Private family graveside was held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
