Barbara Wechsler Obituary

Wechsler, Barbara
Barbara Kaufman Wechsler died peacefully at Memorial Regional Hospital South in Hollywood, Florida on April 4, 2015. She had surgery on February 9, 2015, for an aortic dissection, from which she was making a valiant recovery when she slipped away.
Barbara loved being with family and friends. She will be remembered for her warmth, her generosity, her caring and her cheerful demeanor.
She was born on March 13, 1947, in Bridgeport, CT and spent her childhood in Fairfield, CT, graduating from Andrew Warde High School in 1964. She obtained her bachelor's degree in early education from Central Connecticut State College in 1968.
Barbara married Attorney Robert Wechsler in 1970. They lived in Stamford, where they raised their two sons, Jeffrey and Matthew. In 2013, she and her husband moved full-time to Florida, where they had had a vacation home for many years.
Former students at Bi-Cultural Day School still recall Barbara's positive influence in their lives. She embraced individual learning styles to develop each child's strengths, an approach not widely in use at the time. Parents of her students appreciated that she was direct and honest, and put the needs of her students first.
The Wechslers had been members of Rockrimmon Country Club for many years. They also had been members of Newfield Swim and Tennis Club and long-time members of Temple Beth El in Stamford.
Barbara is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Robert Wechsler, her sons Jeffrey Paul Wechsler (Robin Parnes) of Wellesley, MA and Matthew Todd Wechsler (Frankie Ben-Zvi) of Los Angeles, CA, and her grandchildren, Leah and Eli Wechsler of MA, and Oliver Wechsler of CA.
In addition, Barbara's memory will be cherished by her brothers, David Kaufman of Watertown, CT and William (Billy) Kaufman (Judy Silverman) of Stamford, CT, and her several nieces and nephews.
Barbara will be laid to rest on April 8 in Boynton Beach, FL. Shiva will follow at the Wechslers' home through mid-day Friday. The Wechsler Family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of one's choice.

Please accept my deepest condolences. Barbara lived right across the street from me in Fairfield and we saw each other almost every day as classmates throughout junior high and high school. My thoughts and prayers go to her entire family especially her brother Billy whom I knew as well.

Matt, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I can tell that she was a beautiful and caring woman by the story told above but mostly because of my friendship with you. It is obvious that you are a reflection of her and that you love her very much. May God bless you and your family and help to heal the pain. Be well my friend.

Dear Bob and family

Barbara and I met at a golf tournament at Indian Spring Country Club. It was best ball and Barbara was my partner. She saved me!! It was a pleasure meeting her and delightful playing golf with her.
She will be missed in the Ladies League and by all who knew her. So sorry for your loss.

Bob,Jeff, Matthew---
Judi and I knew Barbara as a friend and neighbor. For both Judi and I Barbara was,to the extreme, a lady who could always be counted on for her friendship and reliability. She will be remembered in so many ways, by so many friends in so many places but the common denominator for us all will be the smile which she brings to all of us and our collective knowledge that she will be sorely missed

Bad news travels fast. And far -3000 miles away. I usually enjoy receiving emails from Larry Windsor, but not this morning. He conveyed the sad news about Barbara.

I lived up the street-she lived at the opposite end. We later lived at opposite ends of Fairfield County and saw each other infrequently. But whenever I ran into her, she was absolutely delightful.

Barbara was a lovely woman and an old friend. My heart goes out to her family. We will all miss her
