Harry Tomsky Obituary

HARRY G. TOMSKY, a lifelong resident of New Haven, and also fo Pompano Beach, Fla., died on March 22, 2010 after a brief illness. Harry was devoted to his wife of 62 years, Barbara, and was the proud father of Margery T. Verlezza of Milford, John M. Tomsky of Stamford, and Elizabeth T. Ferraro of Sand Point, NY, and their spouses Peter Verlezza, Debra Tomsky and Joseph Ferraro. He was also the loving grandfather of Eric Strom (Lisa), Holly Strom Ashby (Jay), Michael Tomsky (Rachel), Rebecca Tomsky, Jessica Ferraro Udell (Scott), Matthew Ferraro, Victoria Verlezza and George Verlezza; and doting great-grandfather of Austin Ashby, Mara Ashby and Sarah Strom. He was predeceased by his sister, Ida Evans. He was very proud of his service as a medic during World War II, serving in General Patton's third Army. Harry believed in hard work and instilled that virtue in his children. He maintained his business, the Tomsky Metal Company, which was established by his father, Hyman Meyer Tomsky and maintained by his mother, Anna Alpert Tomsky during the war, and he continued to work his business until his death. He was a long time member of the Woodbridge Country Club and the Palm Aire Country Club, where he was an active golfer, and a real lover of the game. It can truly be said the Poppy Harry loved and was loved by his family and his friends and by all people who had the pleasure and good fortune to come into contact with him. The funeral service for Harry Tomsky will take place at the Robert Shure Funeral Home, 543 George Street, New Haven (203) 562-8244) on Wednesday at 11 a.m. followed by interment in Beth Israel Cemetery, Derby-Milford Road, Orange. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. The Tomsky family will observe Shiva on Wednesday evening at the clubhouse at Harbor Close residence of Barbara Tomsky, Thursday and Sunday at 2 Southlake Dr., the home of John and Debby Tomsky, Saturday at the home of Betsy and Joey Ferraro, 4 Knoll Rd., Sands Point, (Long Island) NY.

Dear Grammy, John, Margery and Betsy,
