Leo Cornell Obituary
Formerly of Ulysses, PA
Age 36, of Ocala, FL, died Friday, December 14, 2007, in Ocala. Born June 20, 1971, in Coudersport, he was the son of James and Glenna Tomb Cornell. On February 24, 1994, in Vojens, Denmark, he married the former Marcy L. Anderson, who survives. A 1989 graduate of Northern Potter H.S., he served with the US Army since 1989. He was a veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was a member of Carl E. Hyde American Legion Post #963 in Ulysses, and the First Baptist Church, Ocala, where he served as a deacon. Surviving, besides his wife, Marcy; are two sons, Travis Cornell and Austin Cornell; father, James (Judy) Cornell of Ulysses; mother, Glenna (Dean) Riel of Hope Mills, NC; brother, Alan (Hallie) Cornell of Erie; sister, Sunnie (Scott) Covell of Hope Mills, NC; paternal grandmother, Vivian Cornell of Genesee; maternal grandfather, Glenn Tomb of Harrison Valley; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call at the Ulysses United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 19th, from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m., with Funeral Services at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Deborah Watkins, Rev. Edward Johnson, and the Rev. Jay Montgomery Grant, Jr. will officiate. Burial with Full Military Honors will be in North Bingham Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Marion County Hospice, 3231 SW 34th Ave., Ocala, FL 34474. Arrangements are entrusted to the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA.

Well it's been 16 years since I walked into the the recruiters station on 40 next to the movie theater. Meeting you was the turning point of my life for the better. You believed in all of us and did anything you could for us. Thank you for changing my life for the better. You may be gone but will never be forgotten. You will continue to live through us. HOOAH!!!

Leo, you were are neighbor in North Carolina. You came over right away and I new we would be good friends after that. You ended up being in my unit. Marcy, it is April 2014 and Armondo Peters just informed me of your loss. I am sorry we all didn't keep in touch better. Ruth and I are so very sorry for your loss. He was a great man. You will be missed buddy.

I wasn’t the perfect friend to Leo because I let life get between him and I. I do regret that now. There are two events that I will always remember about Leo. First was when I arrived in Italy and he picked me up from the airport. That same night he invited me (a stranger just a few hours before) to go hang out with him and his friends. I don’t think I would have had any fun in Italy if it wasn’t for him. Secondly, I will always remember him playing softball with a glove in one hand and his other fist pounding the glove while he yelled at the batters. I will miss you Leo. Have a good rest! How wonderful to know that Leo is beyond pain and suffering and in the very presence of his Lord and Savior! But I,too, lost the husband I loved when I was 28, so I can understand what you are going through. Thank goodness that you know the same Savior who will see you through. But we still weep for our loss. You certainly have our prayers. I love you both. I also remember Travis and his faith which will be an additional comfort. I love you all. Janet

Words fall short of the feelings and emotions that Linda and I have for both you and Leo. Leo's fight has been a source of inspiration and hope in what God has in store for us if we remain faithful and obedient. My brother Leo has now made it to the top of the list of people I want to see when I return home. In the days and years ahead, please count on us to be there in your times of need.

Our daughter (Amanda Bleau) is a teacher to one of Leo's sons (his youngest) and my prayers and sympathies goes to the entire family during this very hard time. I went to school with Leo in Harrison Valley. My family moved out of district when I was entering the 8th grade. Although it’s been 25 years since I have seen Leo and my elementary friends, it seems like just yesterday. It is with great fondness that I look back at my memories in elementary school and know that I have been blessed to know such people. To you his family, I offer my sincerest condolences. I met Leo and Marcy in Italy 15 years ago. Leo was a great man and touched people he may not have even realized. He had a kind heart that was full of love for God, Marcy and his boys. He was a great friend and God Father to my Daughter. He will truly be missed. I thank God he is at peace now.

Leo is such a special person, his devotion to his children was memorable as he continued to coach his son's soccer team through his own physical pain. He touched our hearts especially when in October of this year he reached out to us in our time of sorrow & offered words of comfort. We will never forget his love for God and others.
