Rita Hager Obituary
Rita M. Hager, age 81, of Dayspring I in Corning, NY died peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA with her family at her side. Rita was born August 24, 1934 in Corning to Kenneth and Dorothy (Copp) Clark. She was a graduate of Northside Blodgett. She had worked for Ken and Elsie's and the FoodMart. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and a long-time member of the South Corning United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, making "grandma's salad," bus trips to the casinos, and playing cards. The job she was best at was riding herd on her five boys. She is survived by her five sons, Charles (Sandra) Kottwitz, Jr. of Pine City, NY, Ronald (Whitney) Kottwitz of St. Petersburg, FL, Scott (Susie) Kottwitz of Spring Hill, FL, Kenneth Kottwitz of Pinellas Park, FL, and Steve (Kristiana) Kottwitz of Brooksville, FL; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Ruth Clark; her husbands, Charles Kottwitz, Sr. and Alvin (Gene) Hager. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday March 8th from 5 until 7 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. 216 East First Street in Corning where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM with Reverend Patrick Holder officiating. Burial will be in Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats, NY next to her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South Corning United Methodist Church, 12 Caton Road, Corning, NY 14830. Special thanks to the ICU and Trauma Department of Robert Packer Hospital.

Rita was a friend from our childhood in South Corning. Her mother, Dorothy, was our Girl Scout Leader with Helen Coles. Good memories.
Within the last ten years, we were together a few times, as the South Corning "girls" connected again, annually, at Keuka Lake. She shared old pictures from the 1940's and her father's correspondence with young men serving in the armed forces during World War II. It was wonderful to see her again and share memories of our early years in South Corning.
While Rita and I were not related, we shared the Copp family, as they were related to me on Margaret White Copp's side and to Rita on her husband, Raymond Copp's side. (Margaret's mother Josephine was my father, Earl Cortright's sister)
RIP Rita. Condolences to all who loved you.

My favorite memory of my mom in law was when she would pick me up at ny house and we would walk around sawgrass park and got busted by the park ranger for feeding the alligators. I will treasure that always. I love you rita and I will miss you greatly. REST IN PEACE
