Rizzo Harry Obituary
NY formerly of Corning, NY passed away on Thursday December 6, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY following a brief illness. Harry was born June 7, 1931 in New York City and has been a Horseheads resident since 1992. Harry was an active and well-known member of the Horseheads community. He helped forge strong relationships with his neighbors and the community, and over the last few years has been involved with the COPS (Community Oriented Policing) program. He was a strong advocate for himself and for others with disabilities, not stopping until he got answers and responses. He strived to be independent in the community, at the Mall, returning re-cyclables, kibitzing with others, enjoying his painting, Elmira College Hockey, Mass on Sunday, the Dollar Store, eating at McDonald's, bowling in Rochester, and AIM events. Harry touched many lives and had many friends. He is survived by many friends at Cerebral Palsy of Chemung County, as well as Mr and Mrs. Stuart Lucas of Rochelle Park, New Jersey, whom he considered his adoptive parents; Stacey Halloway of North Carolina and Mark and John Phipps of Horseheads, NY. Harry was a truly unique and loved gentleman. He was forever committing random acts of kindness. He will be missed by many. Friends are invited to call at the Van Buskirk-Lynch Funeral Home Mill St. & Grand Central Ave. Horseheads, NY on Monday December 10, 2001 from 2-3:30 PM. A Prayer Service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 3:30 PM, with Rev. Stephen Karani officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday December 11, 2001 at 10 AM at St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 W. Broad St. Horseheads, NY. It was Harry's wish that he be cremated and be inurnment will be in Hope Cemetery in Corning, NY.
