Richard McGee Obituary

RICHARD ("Dick") McGEE, SR., of Marco Island, Florida, formerly of Towson Maryland, peacefully passed away on April 30, 2023, at the age of 80.

Family and work were the cornerstones of Mr. McGee's life. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Sondra Harrison McGee. He is survived by his two sons, Richard Jr., (Lauren) and Devin (Jenny), his six grandchildren: Haley (Dylan) Bozel, Trey McGee, Cameron McGee, Elle McGee, Phoebe McGee, and Gage McGee and one great grandchild, Briggs Bozel.

In 1964 he joined his father in the family business at Abacus Corporation and over the course of nearly 60 years, led the company on an evolving course from a local janitorial services provider to a nationwide corporate services company, employing over 25,000 people per year in staffing, security, and janitorial services. He was grateful for the opportunity to work closely with so many family members, including the opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with his sons for nearly 40 years.

Dick was a 1960 graduate of Poly High School and later attended Cornell University and graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

A celebration of life service will be held at Towson United Methodist Church on May 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with internment to follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens. The service may also be viewed live at https://www.youtube.com/live/m1OEpRmOgdg?feature=share

November 6, 1993 I became an employee of Abacus Corporations. My primary supervisor was Richard McGee Jr.
I spend over sixteen years of Thursday morning Corporate meetings, which Mr. McGee Sr set at the head of table. I would arrive at the meeting early since I would drive up from Virginia
What I most appreciated about Mr McGee, was he would always spend a half hour or so personally we me before the main meeting began. For me, that was special. He sometimes would
tell others when the main meeting began that John and I have already had a meeting this morning. What I remember the most about Mr McGee, he came to the Washington DC Office one day,, which I served as the Regional Vice President. We was having a conversation about something, and he shifted gears, and said I am proud of you. You would have to know Mr. McGee to understand how much that meant to me. Mr. McGee, I have never stop thinking about him. He made me feel like a part of the Abacus family. Until we meet again on the other side.
Rest In Peace! I will never forget you. Family, my prayers and condolences.

Always remembering the McGees at the Hampton Pool. Dick would be reading a newspaper and Sondra would be talking with all the gals. Loved them!
Good times!!!
