Robert (Bob) Taylor Dryden Jr, age 89, a longtime resident of Easton, then Baltimore County, died peacefully on 23 January 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on 18 February 1933 in Easton, where he grew up, graduating Easton High School in 1951. At EHS Bob played varsity basketball, tennis and track, earning a state championship in shot put. Bob attended the University of Delaware as an ROTC member, where he continued to play basketball. Upon graduation he served as a US Army lieutenant on active duty as an anti-aircraft missile officer. After the Army, Bob met the love of his life, Barbara Rollyson, on a blind date. Nine months later they married, inseparable ever since. Bob and Barbara set up their home in Easton, where Bob worked for Bayshore Foods, before establishing a successful insurance business, and Barbara taught at EHS. Bob and Barbara had two children together, Julia and Robert. A member of Christ Episcopal Church, Bob held various leadership roles in the vestry. Bob also sat on the board for the Chesapeake Center Inc., an organization that supports and promotes success for adults with disabilities. Bob remained active in sports, playing tennis into his fifties, and was a lifelong supporter of college football and lacrosse. As his family grew, Bob showed his dedication to family, attending countless events for his children and grandchildren. After retirement, Bob and Barbara traveled the world together, enjoying great food and wine abroad, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra when home.
His legacy lives on with his daughter, Julia Dryden English, son-in-law, Evan Allen English, daughter in law, Janice Kelch (Dryden), and five grandchildren, Lynn Richardson (Dryden), Benjamin English, Laura Dryden, Jon English, and Robert Scott Dryden. His death was preceded by his best friend and wife, Barbara Rollyson Dryden, and son, Robert Hugh Dryden.
Family and friends are invited to take part in funeral services, being held at 11am on Friday 27 January 2023 at Christ Episcopal Church, 111 S Harrison St, Easton Md; a gathering will be held following the service.
