John Harrobin Obituary

Capt. John Joseph Harrobin
Retired Newark F.D. captain; proud Navy veteran
John Joseph Harrobin, 85, of Allamuchy, N.J., passed away peacefully at home, Jan. 11, 2020.
Soon after high school graduation, Mr. Harrobin enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving from 1953 to 1957 aboard the USS Black. He spent 35 years with the Newark Fire Dept. until his retirement as captain in 1998. Mr. Harrobin was an extremely proud veteran, firefighter and long-time faithful, frustrated fan of the N.Y. Mets who enjoyed discussing the Navy, Fire Dept., or his team whenever the chance presented itself. He also enjoyed golfing and attending annual Tin Can Sailor reunions with former shipmates, especially Bob Geis and Lyle Pershing.
Mr. Harrobin is survived by his loving wife, Katherine (Del Russo), with whom he spent the last 20 years; three adult stepchildren, Paul, Michael, and Maria, and three stepgrandchildren, Stephanie, Mikey, and Zack, each of whom thought the world of him. Surviving also are a son, John (Marcy), and grandchildren, Rita, Jack, and Michael. Mr. Harrobin will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by those who knew him, as a hard-working, all-around 'nice guy'.
In lieu of services, a donation will be made in Mr. Harrobin's memory to the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Hackettstown, N.J.

Was not aware that Johnny had passed. He was a first cousin (his dad and mine were brothers) but we lost contact with him several years ago. Very sorry for your loss. He was a great guy.
