Myrna M. Leal Burr

1935 - 2014

Myrna Burr, a resident of Bloomfield, N.J., passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 9, 2014.
The family welcomes relatives and friends for visitation on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Martin's Home for Services, 48 Elm St., Montclair, N.J. 07042. Funeral service will be held on April 17, 2014, at 9 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 55 Montclair Ave., Montclair, N.J. 07042. Interment will be at Flushing Cemetery, Flushing N.Y. (No procession to the cemetery.)
Myrna was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on April 19, 1935, and grew up in Harlem, N.Y., during the vibrant 1940s. She graduated as a registered nurse from Mount Sinai Nursing School in 1959.
Myrna moved to Montclair, N.J., with her family in 1971, and accepted a position as a registered nurse at Mountainside Hospital in 1973. During her tenure at Mountainside Hospital, she held the positions of head nurse of the recovery and operating rooms.
Myrna was well-known and much admired in her community, having cared for many residents of Montclair and the surrounding communities over her 40 years of service at Mountainside Hospital. Myrna retired at the age of 78, in September 2013.
Myrna was predeceased by her father and mother, Victor Leal and Fredericka Moore Leal; and her sister, Vicki Leal Gibbs. She is survived by her sons, Marc G. Burr and his wife, Kim Booker Burr; Dr. Scott C. Burr and his wife, Paula Kennedy Burr, and Paul J. Burr Esq. and his wife, Gretchen Knowlton Burr; her nine grandchildren, Makeda, Isaac, Isis, Serena, Miasha, Chelsea, VeJay, Kaely and Gavin; and her four great-grandchildren, Zaleah, Analah, Demetrius and Valentino, and her many loving relatives and friends.
