Shirley Mainiero Obituary

Shirley Mainiero, 75, passed away on June 24, 2010. Shirley was born in Newark, N.J., and spent her childhood growing up in Nutley, N.J. In 1969 she and her family moved to Kinnelon, N.J., and ultimately, in 2001, Shirley moved to Butler, N.J.,where she resided until her passing. Shirley was an employee of Kinnelon Public Library for the past 13 years. She leaves behind two brothers, Sal and Jimmy; four children and their spouses, Cherylnn, Louis and Tammy, Janice and Michael, Lenny and Anisa, and her 14 grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lucy, and her devoted husband and longtime love, Leonard, who passed away in 1987. Although forever heartbroken over the loss of her husband, Shirley made every effort to live life each day. She truly celebrated the company of her children and grandchildren during the many holidays together. Her days were filled with the company of close friends from her condo complex, and she thoroughly enjoyed her days at work, where she was surrounded by many of the people she had come to know and love over the years. Anyone that knew Shirley, loved her. She had a sincere and open heart that embraced everyone she met. She will be forever missed. Viewing hours will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave., Butler, N.J., www.themorrisonfuneralhome.com. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery, Butler, N.J. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make any donations to the Friends of the Library in Kinnelon or the Kinnelon Food Pantry at the municipal building complex.

You know how people always say " you don't know what you have until it's gone". Well in this case that's not true. I've always known that Mr. and Mrs. Mainiero were special people. When I was 16 I looked up to them both. They were great parents and had a really special family. They all really loved each other and had so much fun together as a family. I was lucky enough to feel like I was a part of that back then. They wouldn't have it any other way. They will always be missed but I'm happy that they're finally together again. I love them both and always will.

Although we only saw Shirley at family gatherings, we both remember her for her compassion and warmth. It was clear to both of us that she was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. Our only regret is that we did not get to know her better, and the way we will honor her memory is to show the same care and compassion to others as she so graciously bestowed upon us. Our deepest condolences to Shirley’s children and extended family.

Love, Andy and Ann LeGuen

"The world will be a little darker without the light of her smile. She was a wonderful person and will be truly missed."

Shirley was one of the sweetest people I've known. Our world will be a little dimmer without her. My condolences to her family.

My life is so blessed to have had this honest, loving, gentle, giving Christian woman to walk with me. On Thursday, June 24, 2010, Shirley went to be with with our Lord and her beloved husband Len, in Heaven. I smile when I think of them together now, for Eternity. As for me and our families we are mourning and very sad that Shirley is gone from us. It makes the walk of life a little harder when a good friend, Mother, Nona is gone. Shirley will live forever in our hearts. I know that someday we will all be together with our Lord and Savior.
Until then, my friend will stay tucked away in my heart and memories. See ya later Shirl. I will always love you. Sandy
