Nancy O'Connor Obituary

NANCY REID O'CONNOR

Nancy Reid O'Connor, 73, of Fayetteville passed away Friday, October 15, 2010, in her home following an extended illness from cancer. A native of Durham, NC she was the daughter of Anna Carpenter Schoming and Stan Carpenter, the stepdaughter of John Schoming. She was predeceased by her parents, stepfather, and her first husband, Marland Cornelius Reid.

Mrs. O'Connor was dedicated to her family, each of whom she loved deeply. She is survived by her husband, Thomas C. O'Connor; a son, Matt C. Reid and his wife, Wendy and grandchildren Suzanna and John all of New Bern; a daughter, Anna Reid Wall and her husband, Dr. Tom "Boo" Wall and grandchildren Marley and Sara all of Brown Summit, NC; two stepchildren, Jennifer A. O'Connor-Parmalee and her husband, Craig of Eastchester, NY, and Thomas E. O'Connor of Washington, DC.

Mrs. O'Connor attended St. Mary's and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She earned a BA in English and taught in Virginia Beach, VA and Durham, NC. She was a member of Haymount United Methodist Church, the Junior League of Fayetteville, Lafayette Garden Club, Fayetteville Beautiful, secretary of the Garden Council, leader in Bible Study Fellowship for fourteen years, and a member of the charter training class for Contact. Gardening and bridge were two of her favorite hobbies.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 18, 2010 from 6-8 PM at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service on Ramsey Street. Following a private burial, a celebration of Nancy's life will be held at Haymount United Methodist Church on Ft Bragg Road on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at 11:00 AM with Dr. John Bergland and Rev. Woody Wells officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Children's Home of NC, 604 Meadow St, Greensboro, NC 27405.

I will always remember Nancy's beautiful smile and positive attitude. What a valiant woman she was.....now she is whole and healthy and completely happy worshipping at the feet of our LORD! God bless you and heal your hearts as only He can.
