Edward MANSFIELD Obituary

MANSFIELD,
Edward N. "Big Ed"
Edward N. "Big Ed" Mansfield, 83 was born on December 6,1931 in Austin, Texas. He was raised in Buda, Texas on his grandparent's farm. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict; he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. "Big Ed" passed away on October 29 with his family by his side.

Ed spent his working years as a newspaper man at the Austin American Statesman. He was a gentle but firm leader - he was a friend to all, a man among men. "Big Ed" as the guys called him never met a stranger. His humor was a part of almost every conversation and was with him to his last moments. Ed's secret dream in life was to win the Publisher's Clearinghouse - so he could live on 'Easy Street.' Ed's retirement years were spent in Marble Falls with his wife Dottie, their "puppies," and a wide circle of friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alonzo and Nona Mansfield; his parents, Lonnie Roy Mansfield and Myrtle Lawhon Mansfield; his first wife Ruby Herwald Mansfield; his sister Dorothy Finger Mansfield; and stepson Daniel Guerin.

Ed leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 36 years, Dottie; his son Bruce and wife Jeanne; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws Adeline Koepple; Sylvia Martinez; several nieces and nephews; Lonnie Mansfield and Charles Mansfield and wives; his three puppies; and a wide circle of wonderful friends. Slán Abhaile Big Ed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the animal shelter in Ed's honor.

A visitation will be held Wednesday November 4, 2015 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks funeral home at 1:30pm.

Ed would sing old Hank' songs at our jam session parties. My Dad & sisters would drive up from Victoria just to hear him sing "There's a tear in my beer". Wonderful wonderful memories. Always a gentleman & man of his word. Rest in Peace my friend & save me a spot in your band up there.

We're sure Ed is winning all the domino games in Heaven, and we know he's playing guitar with the Heavenly band. He was more than a boss; he was a good friend we will miss terribly. God bless and comfort you Dottie, Bruce, Jeanne and family. Ray and Glenda

Ed taught me many things over the half of a lifetime I spent working for him but perhaps the most revealing of his influence was the appreciation that every person you come to know and associate with has something worthwhile they "bring to the table".
