Hubert Klein Obituary

Hubert Herman Klein 1924 - 2013 Hubert Herman Klein was born on August 31, 1924 in Stonewall, Texas to Erwin and Hulda Gold Klein. He married Jeanette Pehl of Luckenbach, Texas on April 24, 1954. Hubert passed away on July 6, 2013 and was buried in Stonewall on July 8 with full military honors. Mr. Hubert Klein is survived by his wife of 59 years: Jeanette Pehl Klein of Stonewall, two daughters, one son and their spouses: Michelle and David Stahl of Fredericksburg, Texas, Michael and Susan Klein of Austin, Texas and Rhonda and Bryon Schaetter of Fredericksburg, Texas. He also is survived by eight grandchildren: Carrie and Derek Hinshaw, Deanne and Manuel Gonzales, Bartley Schaetter, Brianna Schaetter, Baleigh Schaetter, Elizabeth Byrd, Eddie Byrd, Katherine Klein and Allison Klein as well as three great-grandchildren: Norah Faith Gonzales, Blake Byrd and Cole Byrd. He is survived by one sister, Lucille Kott, of San Antonio and two brothers: Clarence Klein of Stonewall, Texas and Alton and Mary Klein of Stonewall, Texas. He is also survived by his sister in law and brother in law, Clara and Ed Schneider, of Fredericksburg, Texas. Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Hulda Gold Klein, brother Rueben Klein, sister in law Annie Marie Klein, and brother in law, Victor Kott. Hubert was born and raised in Stonewall. He attended Stonewall Elementary School and graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1941. He served in the United States Air Force from 1942 - 1945, becoming an aerial gunner in a B-24 Liberator. He attained the rank of Sergeant and received an honorable discharge. Following his military service, Hubert became a farmer and rancher in Stonewall. In 1973, he became a fire fighter at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. Later he was transferred to Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He retired in 1989. In his retirement, Hubert enjoyed "entertaining" his grandchildren, gardening, playing pinochle and telling wonderful stories. He and Jeanette, his wife of 59 years, enjoyed visiting with the guests of their upstairs Bed and Breakfast on the Pedernales River, the Heimplatz am Fluss. Hubert had an incredible recollection and wealth of knowledge of local history. He was a dedicated member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stonewall and a member of the St. Thomas Society. For many years, he was an active member of the Gillespie County Chapter 167 of Disabled American Veterans. He served as a director on the Stonewall Water Board. Memorials may be made in his memory to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Hill Country Memorial Hospice, Stonewall VFD, or to the charity of your choice.
