Marian Dozier Obituary

Marian Alice Dozier
Austin - Age 88, died on January 22, 2021, in Austin, TX.
Marian was born on February 4, 1932, in Konawa, OK, to parents Don and Vera Phelps. She grew up in Ada, OK, attending Ada High School and First Baptist Church of Ada. She attended Oklahoma City University where she met the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Dozier. They married on January 20, 1950. Together, they built their family, faith and business, and were the most successful partners in life anyone could ever imagine. Work took them to live in many places. The early part of their marriage was in Duncan, OK, where they met lifelong friends they considered as family. They moved to Austin, TX, in 1968 and established Austaco. They owned Taco Bells throughout central Texas. Providing meaningful employment to thousands of families was always a great source of pride and joy to them. After Dick's death in 1996, Marian expanded the business by acquiring the Pizza Hut franchise for central Texas. When she retired from franchise ownership, she owned 70 Taco Bell and 45 Pizza Hut restaurants. Marian loved her church, Shepherd of the Hills Christian Church, as a founding member. The University of Texas was very large in Marian's life. Dozier Court, Bill Little Media Center, and Dozier Family Men's Basketball Office were a part of her love for UT Athletics and the student-athlete. She loved to travel, play tennis with her friends, and spend time at South Padre Island. She generously supported Any Baby Can, the Dell Children's Hospital 'Specially for Children Infusion Center, and the Miracle Foundation, among many other charitable endeavors. Marian loved supporting organizations that assisted the working poor and that helped children's medical, social and familial needs.
Marian is survived by her three children and their families: son Dirk and his wife Katie Dozier of Austin, TX, and their children Trey Connolly and Steve Rambo; Sarah and Jason Hannon and their children Scout and Jet; Katlin and Greg Vanaken and their children River and Stella; Amy and Michael McNeil and their daughter Juliet; Ben and Cristi Dozier and their children Adelyn, Gunner, Creede and South; son Rich and his wife Anna Dozier of Ruidoso, NM, and their children Cooper and Brittany Dozier and their son AJ; Camp and Allyson Dozier and their children Roland and Gwen; Naomi and Gerardo Munoz and their children Lilliana and Gabriel; Gracie Dozier; Matt and Sara Bogler and their children Christian and Cayman; Amanda and Jerod Foster and their children Eva, Lola and Emmy; and son Jay Dozier of Kerrville, TX, and his children Georgia, Daphne and Abe Dozier and their mother Amy Dozier; and grandchild Whitney Dozier and Luis Sanchez and their children Emma and Livy.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband Richard Dozier of Austin, TX, her son Doug Dozier of Austin, TX, her sister Pat Bonar of Ada, OK, and her brother Gene Phelps of Ada, OK.
The family thanks the wonderful people with Halcyon Hospice for their care for Marian during the past three months.

Marian and Dick welcomed me when I moved to Austin. We all loved basketball so it was an easy fit. I am so sorry that COVID kept me from seeing Marian over the last year. My love to the children and thank you for sharing your parents with the rest of us. Such a special family!

Marian was truly a special individual. She always had a smile on her face for anyone. The world is a much sadder place with her passing, but she has be reunited with the love of her life, and for that, we can all be grateful. My deepest condolences to all the family. She will be missed.

Petite Marian was always larger than life. She never met a stranger. Once you met her, she never forgot your name, and always asked about your family, tennis, life, and with sincere interest. God is having a ball with her in heaven. She will be missed.

Marion was the kind of person that just lit up a room when she entered it...one of the most amazing people I have known in my life. She had a presence like no other. I will miss seeing her beautiful smile and radiant personality! She was also one of the fiercest TEXAS fans and benefactors out there! A true Texas grand dame. Marion, you will be greatly missed but carried in our hearts always.
