Michael Cobb Obituary

Michael Harold Cobb

June 2, 1948 - August 10, 2012

SALEM - Mike was born to Lester Edmond and Pauline (Sours) Cobb on June 2, 1948 in Salem, OR. After graduating from North Salem High School in 1966, he continued his education at Oregon State University where he received his Bachelors Degree. While at OSU he enrolled in the Army ROTC program and later served in the United States Army Reserve as a Captain. At the age of 16 he began a 41 year career with Roth's Friendly Foodliner. Mike was married to the love of his life, Katherine Jean (Mentzer) on September 6, 1969. Together they shared a passion for horses, the outdoors, and traveling. With an incredible zest for life and an endless love of family and friends, Mike enjoyed golf, camping, fishing, and traveling. Many happy days were spent at the family's beach house riding four-wheelers on the dunes, sand sledding, shell hunting, and campfires on the beach. Mike was a fun-loving, competitive thrill seeker with an amazing work ethic. He lived a full life with the utmost integrity, honesty, and incredibly positive attitude. In retirement he traveled much of the United States as an independent large cargo carrier spreading his joy and spirit to everyone that he met. He shared many of his daily experiences and was able to stay connected with friends and family as he traveled our country. Mike died tragically in a weather related auto accident in Nevada on August 10, 2012. He is survived by his wife Kathy, son Christopher Michael, daughter Angela Katherine and her husband Dennis Karp Jr.; grandchildren Kiersten Nicole and Wyatt Michael Karp, Courtney Michelle Cobb and her mother Andrea (Jepsen) Cobb. Mike is also survived by his younger brother Claude Lester "JR" Cobb and wife Nancy. He was preceded in death by his older brother Rev. Richard "Dick" Cobb. He will be surely missed! Services for Mike will be held at Salem Golf Club, August 26, 2012 at 4:00 pm.

Kathy,
It was such a joy to see you this summer! But it was the first time to see you without Mike and that was hard! He was such a joyful soul with such a great personality that made you feel always welcome and loved. He was kind of larger than life and once you met him you never forgot his laughter. We enjoyed many times together in the years past and now we feel so blessed to have been able to enjoy the company of you both!

Much love,

Sharon and Don Bixel

I have been going thought old photos that we have on slides and putting them on digital. There are so very many pictures of Mike and Kathy and your sweet kids. The memories flood my mind with Mike's laugh and lighthearted spirit. What fun memories have been going through our minds and we think of Mike. He was truly a gift to us for the years we were able to be with him. Kathy we miss you to and pray for your heart to mend with God's help. Wish we could see you again.

So very sorry to hear of Mikes passing. Way to young with a life of retirement ahead of him. My prayers are with his wife and children at this time. He was a cousin I hadn't seen for a very long time but thought of him often.

I got to know Mike as a classmate at North High. Later on I would see Mike at Roth's IGA from time to time and no matter how busy he was, Mike would always take time to visit with me and reminisce about old times. Mike was a
very special person and he will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time. RIP, my friend.
