Jackie Thompson Obituary

Jacqueline Ann Waldron Thompson, of Statesville, passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at the Gordon Hospice House. She had been in declining health for the past nine years. Born Feb. 16, 1932, in St. Louis, Mo., she was the daughter of the late John Shaffer Waldron and Gertrude VanSager Waldron. Jackie was a graduate of Statesville High School and East Carolina Teachers College, Greenville. On May 4, 1957, she was married to E.H. "Ted" Thompson, who survives. For a number of years she was associated with the Day Care at Fairview Baptist Church. She was also a homemaker and was a member of St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church, where she was an avid choir member. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Susan Thompson and Kathryn Johnson, a son, Patrick Thompson, and a sister, Margaret Crawford. She is survived by her husband, E.H. "Ted" Thompson; a son, John Michael Thompson, of Asheville; three daughters, Donna Thompson Marzean, Gwenn Thompson Blevins and Carol Leigh Thompson, all of Statesville; four grandchildren, Kristen Marzean, of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., John Blevins, Hannah Marzean and Mary Blevins, all of Statesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Kurt Fohn officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, Tenn., at 3 p.m. A Rosary service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson Funeral Home, followed by a family visitation until 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Thompson.
