I am so sorry for your loss. Gene was a special man in every way. He was a wonderful neighbor and friend. Sorry I couldn't be with you at this timel. I'm sure you know our family also suffered a great loss as well. Love to all of you.

Margie, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. I bought shoes from him from back in The Famous days until he retired. I always enjoyed visits with him at the store. He & my dad (Sterling Zumwalt) were buddies when my dad used to drive the Main St. Shuttle. My prayers are with your family.

My name is Judy and I grew up in St Charles. My mother shopped at Famous on Main St where Gene had the Shoe Dept. I was very young and mom bought my shoes there. Gene would measure my feet and tell me I had big feet, then laugh. He found out that we shared birthdays on Halloween and teased me about that. I had a major crush on him when too little to know what a crush was, I just thought he was cute. Saw him in later years at Gene's Shoes and he actually remembered me. Please accept deepest sympathy for your loss. I know he'll be missed.
