George Harrison Obituary

Harrison, George Clifton Cliff November 18, 2012. Cliff died last week after battling cancer for the last ten months. He began his retail career in the executive training program at Sakowitz, a luxury goods retailer headquartered in Houtson, Texas. He ran numerous departments and was involved in several store redesigns before departing for a nine year stint heading up the shops at the Houston Zoo. Following this, Cliff had the opportunity to join the Jefferson National Parks Association in St. Louis, where he served for five years as Director of Marketing and Product Development. From there he moved on to Washington, D.C., in the capacity of Director of Merchandising for the Parks and History Association. Returning to St. Louis in 2004, Cliff joined the staff of the Saint Louis Art Museum, where he served as Retail Sales Director. Cliff served for three years on the Board of Directors of the Museum Store Association, including a year as President. He has been a frequent guest speaker on store design, product development and customer service. Cliff is survived by his mother, Robbie Lynne Harrison and Charles Rogers, his partner of 30 years. His father, George Harrison, battled cancer before his death. He is also survived by his stepmother Sally Colvard and her husband, Bill; his uncle and aunt Billy Ray and Katherine Dickey and cousins Wayne and Lisa Dickey; Dee and Ted Crawford; Ann McElyea, Terry and Mel Elliott. He is also survived by stepbrother Chip and Dana Reid and stepsister Jennifer and Mike Attaway. Cliff will always be a shining star in my life and he will live on forever in my heart. So many memories, so many good times with my friend, Cliff. A major memory, celebrating Cliff's birthday at the Memories Theater in Tennessee and having the Elvis 'tribute artist' wish Cliff a very happy birthday. After the show, 'Elvis' gifted his white silk scarf to the man of the hour, Cliff Harrison. This story was retold every time Cliff and I were together. I smile whenever I think of Cliff, so I'm smiling a lot these days.

Cliff will always hold a very special place in my heart, as I know he will in the hearts of all of us who knew and loved him. He was a delight, always a joyful and dear presence to spend time with. I will remember his laugh, the twinkle in his eyes (yes, they really did twinkle) and his generous, thoughtful and kind-hearted nature. His memory will live on.

Cliff will live in my heart all my life. He was a bright flame, amazing professional and dear friend. I will miss his bright eyes and sweet smile...not to mention his biting wit!

The Merriam-Webster transitive verb definition of dazzle is to overpower with light, to confound with brilliance, or to impress deeply…and for me, Cliff “dazzled.” He brought light and merriment into my life and changed me in ways he never knew. We met when he was just out of college, with a keen sense of himself and how things ought to be…I fell in love with his charm, his wit and his style. My heart goes out to all of us who have known and loved Cliff. It is a bittersweet thing…friends that enter your life fleetingly, brilliantly. While we are bereft now, we had the great good fortune of him in our lives…creating memories we now cherish and can enjoy for a lifetime.

It is never easy to find the words to express the feelings one experiences when hearing about the loss of a loved one, family member, or colleague. It is with profound sadness and bewilderment that all of Cliff's friends, colleagues, and family will confront over the coming days, weeks, and years. As we all begin to understand what it means to live life without Cliff's physical prescences to touch us but it will be in the many fond and loving memories of such a marvelous person that we all can take solice in remembering our dear friend and colleague and in knowing that his life carries on within all of us.
