Sorensen, Joseph Edward
Joe lost his battle with metastatic melanoma on December 21, 2022. He was 28 years old.
Joe was born in 1994 and grew up in Webster Groves, Missouri. He graduated from Webster Groves High School in 2012, went on to the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point where he received his Bachelor of Science in Fishery Research and Management in 2016, and earned his Master of Business Administration from Webster University in 2022. During his time as a Statesman, Joe played volleyball all four years and led his team to three state tournaments. Joe often said that playing volleyball was the best decision he ever made. At Stevens Point, Joe enjoyed playing broomball with friends or playing club volleyball, often referring to himself as "the only college athlete in the family".
Joe began his professional career raising bait fish on the shores of Lake Superior. He then headed west to the mountains of Utah, where he aided in the effort to protect native trout populations from invasive species. In 2018, Joe moved back to St. Louis and soon after began his career at Cash App quickly working his way up the ranks to a management position. Second only to fishing, Joe loved being a coach and mentor to those on and off the volleyball court.
Joe will be remembered for his amazing sense of humor and powerful storytelling abilities. While never one to show his emotions on his sleeve, Joe was one of the most loyal family members and friends one could ask for.
Joe is survived by his mother, Mary Claire (Luepke) Sorensen, his brother, Matthew Sorensen, and sister, Margaret Sorensen.
Services: A service will be held in Joe's honor on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4200 Delor, 63116. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with Mass following at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Siteman Cancer Center. https://wustl.advancementform.com/campaign/siteman-v2/give?sc=SM

Joe was a great colleague. He was always willing to help whenever anyone asked for it. Despite what was going in his life, he was always positive and had a smile on his face. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. He will be hugely missed.

My heart goes out to you Mary Claire, Matthew and Margaret. Joe was an important person to me, although we were not friends. I was someone that had the pleasure of working with him, just a few brief occasions. His kind nature made an impact on me, he could draw you in and you could get excited about whatever he was talking about. I will keep him in my heart. Grateful to have been graced by him. Love you Joe.
