MSG (retired) David Glenn Severns (Shorty) was born January 17, 1946, Wimber, PA. to Lavern and Maud Severns. He was a long time resident of d'Iberville, MS. David passed away on March 16, 2013, at Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, step parents and three brothers (Donald, Tommy, and Joe). He is survived by his wife Nora Faye Severns; sister- Ruby Howard of Arlington, TX and Jennie Roles of Johnstown, PA; brothers-Wayne Severns of New Jersey and Monroe Severns of Pittsburg, PA; Children: Jewel Hurst (Brian) of d'Iberville and CPT(P) David Severns (Leann) of Des Moines, IA; Grandchildren: Janelle Navarro, Brenda Hart, Rachel and Rich Severns; Great-Grandchildren: Stephanie and Emaleigh Ann Navarro; and best friend Patrick Daughertry of d'Iberville.

He enlisted in the Air Force in 1964 where he served as an AC&W Radar Repair Technician. He later served over 7 years as a master radar instructor at Keesler. He served over 21 years in the United States Air Force, and retired from Keesler Air Force Base and the 81st Training Wing in 1985. He was the recipient of many military awards culminating with the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM). David also worked as Security staff for the Isle of Capri Casino from 2000 to 2004. He was also Mr. Isle of Capri In 2003. He also received the Billy Creel Humanitarian Award for his community service work. He is best known for his charity work throughout Biloxi and d'Iberville. He supported the Biloxi Battered Wives Center, Sacred Heart Church, Back Bay Mission and Biloxi Food Bank. Thanks to Antony and Emmett, David was able to successfully help so many families. He received an Amaaritis Service Metal from New Fayard United Method Church. He won the Outstanding Citizen of d'Iberville in 1997 for his charity work helping families in need. He was also a published writer of poetry. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Harrison County Humane Society at 2615 25th Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501 (228) 863-4394. His smile, passion to help others, and love for the community will be greatly missed by all that knew him. David will be laid to rest at the Biloxi National Cemetery.

Visitation service will be at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue Monday, March 18, 2013; family from 4 to 5, friends from 5 to 7. Funeral services will be held at Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home on March 19th, at 11 AM, visitation from 10 until 11. Burial will follow at 12:30 at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
