Emilie Marie Stapp Rausch
, Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, age 82, died on May 22, 2005 in Bay St. Louis, MS. She was born in Wiggins, MS on July 26, 1922 to Frederick and Susan Stapp.As a young girl she sang in the choir at First Methodist Church in Wiggins and attended local public schools. After graduating from Perkinston Junior College she completed her college education at the University of Iowa.
She married Walter William Rausch on May 16, 1943. After her husband's service in the
U. S. Navy and a brief residency in Covington, LA, they selected Bay St. Louis as their home.
A resident of Bay St. Louis for 57 years, Mrs. Rausch served her community as Chairman of the Hancock County Girl Scouts and as member of the Hancock County Library Board. She taught at Christ Episcopal Day School and St. Joseph's Academy. From 1968 to 1983 she worked at her husband's business in New Orleans, LA.
During her more than 50 years at Christ Episcopal Church, Mrs. Rausch served on the Vestry, was advisor for the Episcopal Youth, director of Vacation Bible School, President of the Episcopal Church Women, member of the Altar Guild and sang in the choir. It was her great joy to serve the Lord and her church family.
Survivors include her husband Walter William Rausch of Bay St. Louis, daughter Dorothy Nell Rausch of Mobile, AL; daughter and son-in-law Emilie Marie "Ripple" and Vince Huth of Monterey, CA; grandsons Jason Peevy of Birmingham, AL and Paul Peevy of Pasadena, CA; step-granddaughters and their husbands Cindy and Scott Murphy of Portland, OR and Liana and Nat Farnham of New York, NY and step-great-grandson Townsend Farnham of New York, NY. She is also survived by cousin Betty Hearon and her husband Roscoe of Hattiesburg, MS; sister-in-law Lucy Rausch of Covington, LA; niece Suzanne Hartness and her husband D. A. of Gulfport, MS; nephew John Rausch and his wife and daughter Connie and Caroline of Covington, LA; nephew Carl Rausch and his wife Jackie of Kirkwood, MO; niece Caroline Osborne and her husband Robert of East Bernard, TX; niece Lucy "Lulu" Parker and her husband Joe of Katy, TX; niece Mary Lou Mullon of Bradenton, FL and many great nieces and nephews including Eileen Gipson and her husband and son Bryan and Charles of Ocean Springs, MS; Kathleen Woods and her husband and son Dan and Marcus of Aurora, CO; and Sue Elliott of Port Orange, FL and her children Ashley, Blake and Brooke.
Mrs. Rausch was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Susan Stapp and her sister Carrie Nell Smith.
Services will be at Christ Episcopal Church in Bay St. Louis on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Gulf Coast Memorial Cemetery in Bay St. Louis, MS. Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church or Hancock County Public Library.
