It was good to see so many old friends at the funeral yesterday. Great service. Dennis Thies' words were touching.

A GIANT IS GONE.
I woke up this morning to the news that Mr. Bill Thies Sr. has left us. It is true that I had not seen him for a very long time. But like in the case of any unexpected and unpleasant news, my heart just sunk. Upon further reflection, I realized that Mr. Thies was the first authority figure, with whom I had regular and at times intimate professional contact, that passed away, besides my Mom and Dad. Such news shakes your core and reminds you of the fragility of life.
More than 30 years ago, I arrived in South Florida and the Thies family embraced me with open arms. I had the privilege of serving the Thies Distributing organization. Bill Thies Sr., its President, was a family leader, a business leader, a community leader and a national industry leader for having served for a while as the President of the National Beer Wholesaler Association (NBWA).
Time is not kind. It pardons no one. Life is ephemeral. What is important are the memories one has created, the lives one has touched and the way one has made people feel. Mr. Thies had always made me feel welcome and respected, so much so that I honorably embraced the moniker that was assigned to me in the intimate circle of the family. Mr. Thies will be missed by the many people whose life he has touched. A GIANT is gone.
Nicole and I are expressing our most sincere condolences to the entire Thies family, in particular to Bill Sr's brother Dennis Thies, who has been a steadfast friend and supporter, as well as to some of his children with whom I have had the pleasure of working in some capacity: Bill Jr., Jimmy, Tommy and Heidi.
